The polar bear is a big white bear. It lives in the Arctic, near the North Pole. There are no polar bears at the South Pole.
The Arctic is very cold. There is a lot of snow and ice. Polar bears live on the ice on the sea. Their thick fur keeps them warm. Under the white fur, their skin is black!
Polar bears are very good swimmers. They have big, wide feet. In the water, they use their front feet like paddles.
Polar bears eat meat. Their favourite food is seals. A polar bear waits next to a hole in the ice. When a seal comes up to breathe, the bear catches it.
A mother polar bear has her babies in a den under the snow. The babies are called cubs. Often there are two cubs.
Today, the sea ice is melting because the Earth is getting warmer. Polar bears need the ice to find food. People around the world are working to protect them.
